Chess Improvers at The Gladstone Club
Free Chess Improvement Class: Mondays 18:30-19:30
First team player James Harrison is running a class for anyone interested in improving their chess. It’s open to all ages and abilities, although especially aimed at those in the 1000-1600 rating range. There’s no need to sign up! Just come down, and learn:
- A full opening repertoire that will guarantee you a good game at club level, with white or black
- How to play with purpose in the middlegame (essential pawn structures and principles)
- The common mistakes made by beginner/intermediate players, and how to avoid them
- …and much more!
The upcoming sessions will be all about the opening. If you’re not sure which openings to play, or don’t want to spend hours and hours memorising from a book, this is the answer to your troubles! James has done all the hard work for you, and will present a complete, coherent repertoire you can start playing immediately.
Monday 23rd May:
Playing 1. e4 (against e5 and uncommon openings). Play for an open attacking game with white, and punish meek play from black.
Monday 30th May:
Playing 1. e4 (Sicilian, French, Caro-Kann). Complete your repertoire with recipes against these common defences.
All classes 18:30-19:30 Gladstone Club, Station Rd, Northwich CW9 5RB.
Our usual club night follows at 19:30, which is a great chance to practise what you’ve learnt in some friendly games.
